PLASMA PEN THERAPY
Plasma Pen Therapy is a fast and effective way of removing skin lesions without damaging the healthy surrounding tissue. Plasma energy is produced when ionised gas particles of oxygen and nitrogen create an arc between the tip (needle/probe) causing the lesion to burn, darken and fall off within a few days. Plasma energy has been used in medicine since the early 1900s to deconstruct tumours and in aesthetics it is used for tattoo removal, skin tightening, removal of benign moles, skin tags and other lesions.
What is Plasma Pen therapy?
It is a perfectly safe and effective way of removing skin lesions without causing trauma to the surrounding healthy tissues.
What can Plasma Pen therapy be used for?
It can be used for the removal of skin tags, moles, sebaceous cysts and other benign lesions. For certain lesions written confirmation from a GP or dermatologist may be required to ensure that the lesion is benign.
What are the after effects?
The treated lesions will be immediately flattened, and a scab is left in its place, it will appear darker before falling off within 7 – 10 days.
There is minimal risk of scarring, however, some of the deeper moles may leave faint discolouration once the mole has been removed. This can last up to a few weeks.
What do I need to do afterwards?
The treated area needs to be kept clean and dry for up to one week. Therefore, activities such as swimming, going to the gym, and using steam rooms and saunas are not recommended.
Are there any risks of the Plasma Pen method?
This method is very safe. The risk of infection or consequent scarring is minimal and any potential risks will be discussed during the consultation and consent process.
Will I need more than one treatment?
All lesions can be followed up after 1 month and a 2nd treatment may be necessary to remove it completely.
